Mega Tribute in Punjab Honoring Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadur

Anandpur Sahib/Chandigarh, November 23, 2025 — The Punjab government has begun a series of commemorative events at Anandpur Sahib to observe the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur, with state leaders framing the activities as an exercise in collective service rather than political outreach.

Festivities have been coordinated around the arrival of four Nagar Kirtans that began their journey on November 19. Officials said the processions were planned under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, who, along with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, participated in the Srinagar leg, starting from Gurdwara Chhevi Patshahi.

Government functionaries say they are participating as volunteers at events from Jammu to Anandpur Sahib. “This is an attempt to live the Guru’s message,” a cabinet member said, noting that ministers and MLAs are serving food, managing logistics and assisting devotees.

Police said roughly 10,000 personnel have been deputed to maintain security and assist pilgrims. The deployment, led by Special DGP Arpit Shukla, includes enhanced surveillance tools, such as drones and AI-based systems. DGP Gaurav Yadav reviewed the arrangements on site and instructed officers to combine discipline with compassion. Officials said police personnel are also guiding visitors and helping manage footfall.

In Anandpur Sahib, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains unveiled a website and mobile app, AnandpurSahib350.com, which will provide event-related information and access to services. State officials also announced free medical services, mini-buses, e-rickshaws and public-health facilities for attendees. “The administration is committed to serving every devotee,” Bains said.

The program opens with Akhand Path Sahib and will continue until November 25 with a special session of the Punjab Assembly, cultural performances, an interfaith gathering, heritage events, and a drone show. Officials described the Assembly session scheduled for November 24 as the first held in honor of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

Chief Minister Mann released ₹71 crore for development in 142 villages and towns linked to the Guru’s life and teachings. Officials say the funds are meant to strengthen civic infrastructure and underscore the state’s gratitude. AAP leaders stated that the event is being carried out by members and volunteers as a shared duty, without seeking political benefit.
