Chandigarh, December 6— A biting cold wave swept across Punjab and Haryana on Saturday, with Faridkot emerging as the coldest spot in the region after the temperature plunged to 2.5 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological Department said.
Several districts in Punjab reported a steep fall in minimum temperatures. Amritsar recorded 5.6 degrees Celsius, while Gurdaspur stood at 5 degrees. Ludhiana and Patiala saw minimums of 7 and 9 degrees, respectively. Bathinda slipped to 4.6 degrees, and Pathankot settled at 5.2 degrees.
Chandigarh, the shared capital of both states, maintained wintry conditions at 7.9 degrees Celsius — nearly three degrees below normal.
Haryana also experienced a cold night, with Narnaul clocking the lowest at 3.8 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal. Hisar reported 4.7 degrees, Karnal dipped to 7.5 degrees, and Bhiwani and Sirsa registered lows of 6 and 6.4 degrees. Ambala recorded 9.8 degrees.
