NEW DELHI, Dec 28 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said 2025 will be remembered for India’s achievements in sports, science, wildlife conservation and cultural life, calling the year a period when “faith, culture and heritage came together.”
Speaking during his Mann Ki Baat radio address, Modi said Indian athletes delivered landmark performances across formats and categories, while scientists and space professionals achieved new firsts.
He said the year was especially significant for Indian cricket, with the men’s team winning the ICC Champions Trophy and the women’s team lifting the World Cup for the first time.
“2025 has truly been a memorable year for sports,” Modi said. “Our women cricketers created history, and India’s daughters made the nation proud once again.”
He said Indian women also won the Women’s Blind T20 World Cup, adding to a year of success for athletes across disciplines. Modi said the national flag flew high after India’s dominant victory in the Asia Cup T20, while para-athletes returned from world championships with a large medal tally.
In science and space, Modi said India took a major step forward with Shubhanshu Shukla becoming the first Indian to reach the International Space Station.
“Nations across the globe are deeply impressed by our achievements in science, constant innovations and the expansion of technology,” he said.
Modi also noted progress in wildlife conservation, saying India’s cheetah population crossed 30 in 2025.
Turning to cultural and religious events, Modi said large gatherings during the year drew global attention.
“The Prayagraj Mahakumbh organised at the beginning of the year astonished the world,” he said. “At the end of the year, the Dhwajarohan ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya filled every Indian with pride.”
He said these moments reflected how tradition and modern achievements moved together throughout the year.
