New Rules for Punjab Board Practicals

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH/MOHALI, Jan 12: Board exams in Punjab are set to begin with practical assessments scheduled between February 2 and February 12, according to the latest notification from the Punjab School Education Board. The directive covers middle, matriculation, and senior secondary levels, ensuring all candidates—including those in the open school system—complete their practical work before the main theory papers.

A major update to the evaluation process this year involves the Class 12 Computer Science practical, which will now involve external examiners for the first time. To further modernize the process, the board is utilizing an online system to distribute question papers directly to the self-centers where students will be tested. For Class 10 students, the board has introduced a digital trail requirement, asking schools to maintain video evidence of the Computer Science practical exams.

The board’s letter specifies that external experts will oversee Class 12 practicals in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and several commerce-related subjects. “The rotation of duties for computer faculty will be managed by District Education Officers,” the board noted, explaining that staff will be moved between various private and government institutions for the duration of the testing period.

While external oversight is being tightened for major subjects, smaller elective subjects will continue to be managed at the school level. Subject teachers in these cases are responsible for preparing their own question papers. School heads and regional managers across the state have been ordered to implement these new protocols immediately to prepare for the upcoming February-March session.
