Chandigarh, Jan 28: Two minor boys died on Sunday evening after being hit by a passenger train near the Baltana railway crossing in Zirakpur. The incident took place around 6 pm near the Harmilap Nagar colony while the children were reportedly distracted by kites.

Government Railway Police (GRP) officials stated that the victims, aged 10 and 14, were collecting kites near the tracks and did not notice the oncoming train. Despite the high-speed approach of the locomotive, the boys remained on the path and were crushed.

“An investigation has been initiated under Section 194 BNSS,” GRP SHO Urmila Kumari said, noting that the law requires a formal probe into unnatural deaths.

Eyewitnesses at the scene mentioned that the children had been playing in close proximity to the railway line for some time. The families of the deceased have been notified of the tragedy. Authorities moved the bodies to a medical facility for post-mortem examinations as part of the legal protocol. Local officials noted that safety awareness near railway lines remains a priority to prevent such heart-wrenching occurrences.
