Bengaluru, Jan 30: Authorities are looking into the death of C J Roy, the chairman of the real estate firm Confident Group, after he was discovered dead in his Richmond Circle office on Friday. The incident occurred shortly after the Income Tax Department carried out searches at his properties, according to sources familiar with the matter.
First responders found Roy at the scene with injuries consistent with a discharge from his personal licensed weapon. While the initial evidence points toward a self-inflicted wound, local law enforcement officials said they are waiting for forensic results to provide a definitive cause of death.
“A gunshot was heard by the staff, who immediately alerted the authorities after finding him,” a source at the scene directly said regarding the moments following the discharge.
The real estate mogul was known for his extensive portfolio across Bengaluru, though recent months had seen increased scrutiny of his business operations. Police have secured the office area as part of the ongoing probe into the tragedy.
