Navjot Kaur Sidhu Resigns from Congress

Former MLA praises PM’s vision while exit-shaming congress leadership

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, February 1: Former MLA Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu has resigned from the Congress party, citing an environment where promising leaders are overlooked and internal discipline has crumbled.

The decision follows her suspension from the party two months ago and comes just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jalandhar.

Dr. Sidhu leveled serious allegations against Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, suggesting the state leadership has prioritized personal interests over party welfare. She claimed that internal decisions were being made to favor those working against the party’s core interests.

“The most incapable, corrupt president ever,” Dr. Sidhu stated. “You saved yourself from jail by co-partnering with the CM to destroy the Congress. You had a suspension letter ready for me, but what about nearly 12 senior Congress leaders who were busy working to harm Navjot? You rewarded all of them with big posts for defeating Navjot.”

Shifting focus to the Prime Minister’s visit, Dr. Sidhu spoke in favor of the central government’s developmental approach for Punjab. She criticized local political opposition for coordinating protests against the visit, suggesting a need for gratitude toward national leadership.

“Why is it that when the head of our country comes to give something to our state, all political thieves come together at one platform to disrupt his visit?” she asked. “We should be very clear that he has earned that position and power to give us something great for our state. Be grateful.”

The former legislator’s exit follows a period of tension that began in December when she was suspended after making public comments regarding the financial influences involved in state leadership roles. She has frequently pointed out that internal rivalries among senior figures have hindered the party’s progress in the region.

In her concluding remarks, she questioned why disciplinary actions were not applied consistently across the board, noting that other senior leaders had challenged the current setup without facing similar repercussions.

“I have enough proof to destroy you, but I am not interested because I myself have quit the Congress where no promising leader is heard,” she said. “You are more busy in destroying the party rather than making it win. You have done enough damage.”

While Dr. Sidhu has been vocal about her departure, her husband and former PPCC chief, Navjot Singh Sidhu, has remained silent on the matter and continues his hiatus from active political engagement.
