Punjab Government vows to pursue corruption charges against Majithia

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Feb 3: Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora on Tuesday asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party government’s fight against corruption remains steadfast following the release of Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia on bail. Addressing the media, Arora mentioned that the judicial process is designed to ensure a fair trial based on facts and that the current bail order is a temporary legal phase that does not weaken the state’s case.

The minister noted that the investigation into the alleged laundering of hundreds of crores of drug money into various assets is backed by a comprehensive 40,000-page chargesheet. He said that the Vigilance Bureau has conducted a thorough probe that cannot be undermined by “political celebrations.” Arora further mentioned that the state government is focused on ensuring that justice is delivered based on the rule of law.

“The truth will emerge victorious in court. Our government has zero tolerance for those who have destroyed the future of Punjab for personal gain,” Arora said. He directly said that the trial would proceed without political manipulation, pointing out that the court has already restricted media sensationalism to protect the integrity of the legal proceedings.

Arora also said that the bail conditions are stringent, requiring the accused to face every hearing and cooperate fully with the judicial system.

He noted that the AAP government believes in evidence-based prosecution rather than the “media trials” common in the past.

The minister concluded by stating that the public deserves accountability and the state will continue its legal efforts until a final verdict is reached.
