NEW DELHI, AUGUST 5: To address rising traffic congestion and support regional tourism, MP Malvinder Singh Kang submitted a detailed proposal to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari urging the central government to formally designate the Banga-Garhshankar-Shri Anandpur Sahib route as a National Highway.
Mentioning the strategic and cultural weight of the corridor, the parliamentarian asserted that the route links major centers across the Malwa, Doaba, and Majha regions with religious shrines in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
The representation affirmed that current road capacity remains insufficient to manage high traffic density, which includes daily commuters, religious visitors, and commercial vehicles.
MP Kang declared that although feasibility studies were completed in 2017 following initial central approvals, the project experienced prolonged delays without tangible progress on the ground.
The MP declared that upgrading the highway network will significantly strengthen transportation links, relieve local bottlenecks, and stimulate economic development across both Punjab and neighboring states.
