Chandigarh, Feb 17: The Punjab Government has initiated the rollout of the Punjab Trade Commission, a specialized body designed to simplify daily operations for shopkeepers and small business owners. Finance, Excise and Taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated Tuesday that the commission serves as a primary step in making state governance more responsive to the needs of the local economy.

The minister affirmed that the initiative aims to provide a single-window mechanism for departmental clearances and routine approvals. According to Cheema, the goal is to ensure that the trading community is no longer forced to move from one office to another for basic administrative tasks. “The key objective of the Commission is to ensure that traders no longer have to run pillar to post for routine approvals, departmental clearances and day-to-day business-related work,” the Finance Minister declared.

Preparatory review meetings have already concluded in 10 districts, including Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, and Sangrur. During these sessions, administrative teams and local stakeholders coordinated the operational roadmap for the commission’s implementation. Cheema noted that these discussions are essential to create a system that offers time-bound and accountable grievance redressal.

“Traders and small businesses are the backbone of the state’s economy,” Cheema stated during the announcement. He maintained that the Punjab Trade Commission will operate with a focus on transparency and public service, allowing honest entrepreneurs to expand their enterprises without facing unnecessary harassment or paperwork delays.
