PATIALA, Feb 21— The Punjab government and district administration have taken a significant step toward cultural preservation with the successful organization of a classical music night at the Patiala Heritage Fair-2026. The event brought together music lovers and prominent dignitaries to celebrate the centuries-old legacy of Indian classical arts within the illuminated walls of Qila Mubarak.

The program was amused by the vocal prowess of Raunkini Gupta, who performed intricate renditions of Raag Bhimpalasi and Raag Kedar. The artist affirmed her delight in performing in Patiala, describing it as a renowned “city of Ragas.” Her performance was followed by a sophisticated “Chaugalbandi,” a four-way musical collaboration featuring the sitar, sarod, tabla, and mridangam.

Dignitaries, including MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli and Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Harchand Singh Burst, maintained that such festivals are a commendable effort to protect a heritage that the current generation is moving away from.

They asserted that the event not only showcased the state’s royal splendor but also promoted the broader vision of a colorful and culturally rich Punjab.

The heritage site, decorated with royal aesthetics, hosted a large gathering of residents alongside administrative officials, including ADC Simarpreet Kaur and SP Palwinder Singh Cheema. Local leaders declared that the initiative successfully integrated classical singing and rhythmic dance, ensuring that the legacy of the Patiala Gharana remains a living tradition for years to come.
