Nuh, March 10: A police team from Meghalaya came under attack by a mob in Nuh district on Monday while transporting a suspect involved in a major ATM heist. The confrontation, which took place near Shikrawa village, resulted in a local youth being hospitalized with a gunshot injury after police fired to disperse the crowd.

According to district police sources, the Meghalaya Police were traveling toward Pinangwan when a group of residents blocked their path near the HR-93 dhaba. The villagers reportedly launched a coordinated stone-pelt attack, creating a volatile environment as they attempted to rescue the accused, Rahul Khan.

“The firing was carried out to control the situation and ensure the custody of the accused,” a senior police source declared. Officials affirmed that the suspect is a key figure in a robbery case in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district and had been handed over to the visiting team following his arrest earlier this month.

The injured youth, identified as Tarif, is currently undergoing medical care after being hit in the leg during the melee. Local police confirmed that the Meghalaya team managed to retain control of the suspect despite the ambush.

While the incident has sparked tension in the area, with viral videos showing the moments of the confrontation, the Nuh administration asserted that the visiting officers acted within their legal rights to prevent the escape of a wanted criminal. Further investigations into the identities of the individuals who led the attack on the police team are currently underway.
