New Delhi, March 15: Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry are expected to move into election mode this evening following a formal announcement by the Election Commission. The poll body has invited members of the media to a 4 pm briefing where the specific phases and dates for the five regions will be revealed.
The administrative preparations reached a conclusion this week with the publication of the final electoral rolls. This update to the registries was part of a Special Intensive Revision aimed at ensuring accuracy for the upcoming contests.
“All necessary arrangements for the announcement of the election calendar have been finalized,” an Election Commission representative asserted while discussing the afternoon schedule. The representative further noted that the timing of the polls is designed to align with the end of the current legislative terms, which expire in May and June.
Regional authorities have already been briefed on the transition toward the Model Code of Conduct, which typically comes into effect immediately following such an announcement. The Commission asserted that the staggered expiration of the Assemblies was a primary factor in determining the timeline for each specific state.
