SAS Nagar, April 20: A joint operation by the Punjab Police has led to the arrest of four men linked to international gangster modules, effectively pre-empting planned criminal activities in the state. The suspects were apprehended on Monday near Janetpur while traveling toward SAS Nagar on the Ambala-Chandigarh Highway.
DGP Gaurav Yadav affirmed that the group included an individual linked to a high-profile murder case from the previous year in Abohar. He stated that the preliminary probe highlights a clear connection between the arrested local operatives and handlers stationed outside of India.
“With these arrests, serious crimes in the region have been averted,” SSP Harmandeep Hans declared. He affirmed that the suspects were under instructions to execute significant offenses before they were intercepted by the special police team.
The recovery included two foreign-made pistols and ammunition, which investigators asserted were intended for use in upcoming operations. ADGP Promod Ban stated that the police utilized strategic checkpoints along the highway to ensure the suspects could not evade capture once their movement was confirmed.
Police identified the arrested men as residents of various villages in Patiala, including Ugana and Nalas Khurd. Authorities maintained that the investigation is now focused on tracing the forward and backward linkages of the module to fully dismantle the syndicate’s local infrastructure.
