Chandigarh, March 19: The Shiromani Akali Dal has expanded its leadership ranks with the induction of former IAS officer KJS Cheema, a move announced by party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday. Cheema, who was a trusted lieutenant of the late Parkash Singh Badal, joined the party in Chandigarh following a distinguished career in both the armed forces and the civil services.

Sukhbir Singh Badal stated that it was a moment of pride to welcome an individual of such caliber into the party ranks. He recalled Cheema’s pivotal role during previous Akali administrations, where the officer served as Special Principal Secretary. Cheema was often described as a shadow to the former Chief Minister, working closely to realize the government’s objectives across the state.

The SAD president maintained that Cheema’s background as a former Army Captain instilled in him a sense of dedication that would prove invaluable to the party’s mission. He affirmed that the retired officer’s decision to join the Akali Dal reinforces its standing as the primary advocate for Punjab’s interests. Sukhbir declared that the officer’s vast experience in the West Bengal cadre and the Punjab government would be put to use for the welfare of the people.

In his remarks at the headquarters, the SAD leader asserted that the ruling AAP government has failed to provide honest governance to the state. He stated that the Akali Dal’s legacy of sacrifice stands in contrast to the current political climate. “I am confident the party will benefit from his immense field experience,” Badal declared while welcoming the Moonak-born leader into the party.
