Security Tightened at Delhi-Noida Borders Amid Protests

Police on high alert as violent labor protests spill over from industrial hubs

by TheReportingTimes

NOIDA, APRIL 13 — Security agencies in the national capital have been placed on high alert following a wave of violent protests by industrial workers in neighboring Noida.

The agitation, fueled by long-standing demands for salary revisions, saw a large assembly of workers from various units gathering to raise slogans against current wage structures. As the demonstration turned volatile on Monday, with reports of vehicle arson and road blockades on NH-9, Delhi Police intensified vigil at all major border points connecting the city to Uttar Pradesh.

“Strict vigil is being maintained and thorough checking of vehicles is being carried out to ensure that no anti-social elements enter the city under the guise of the protest,” stated a senior police official.

The protesters declared that their current salaries, ranging from Rs 9,000 to Rs 13,000, do not account for the 12-hour shifts they are required to perform. They asserted that the strike was a necessary response to the lack of movement on wage negotiations and the impact of rising living costs.

Transport services, including the Noida Metro, faced intermittent shutdowns as protesters moved toward central transit points. Officials noted that several police teams have been stationed at motorable roads to prevent any spillover of the unrest into Delhi’s residential or commercial areas.

While authorities stated that efforts are underway to address the grievances of the factory workers, the heightened security presence remains in place at entry points to manage traffic and maintain public order.
