Punjab Bowling Struggles in Mullanpur Defeat

by TheReportingTimes

Mohali, April 29: Rajasthan Royals pulled off a remarkable run chase to beat Punjab Kings by six wickets on Tuesday, successfully hunting down a target of 223 runs. The win was finalized with four balls to spare as Rajasthan’s middle order handled the pressure of a steep required run rate in the closing stages of the match.

The chase began with a flurry of boundaries from Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who hammered five sixes and three fours in a brief but impactful 16-ball stay. His 43 runs, combined with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s half-century, set a platform that allowed Donovan Ferreira to eventually anchor the finish. Ferreira stated his intent by hitting 52 not out, including the winning runs off the bowling of Ferguson and Jansen.

Punjab’s total of 222 was built on the back of consistent partnerships. Prabhsimran Singh maintained the momentum with 59 runs, sharing vital stands with Cooper Connolly and captain Shreyas Iyer. Marcus Stoinis then accelerated the scoring, reaching his half-century in just 20 balls and finishing with an unbeaten 62.

Defensive efforts from the Punjab Kings were hampered by an expensive outing for the pace attack. Team officials noted that the inability to restrict boundaries in the powerplay and death overs was a deciding factor. While Yash Raj Punja took two wickets for the Royals, Punjab’s Arshdeep Singh and Lockie Ferguson found it difficult to stem the flow of runs, leading to Punjab’s first setback of the current IPL campaign.
