Over 42 lakh health cards issued as Punjab ramps up medical scheme

Chandigarh, May 3: Punjab’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has reached a new milestone, providing ₹465.36 crore in medical services to residents across the state. With 2.77 lakh treatments already administered, the government is now focusing on a state-wide drive to register those who remain uninsured.

The health initiative offers a substantial safety net of ₹10 lakh per family for annual medical expenses. This coverage includes treatment for serious illnesses and complex surgical procedures at a network of public and private healthcare facilities.

“Spending over ₹465.36 crore on treatments and crossing 42 lakh registrations shows that people believe in the scheme,” Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh declared. He maintained that the universal nature of the program makes it one of the most inclusive healthcare models in India.

The Minister asserted that residents should not wait for a medical emergency to seek enrollment. He noted that the registration process is streamlined to allow citizens to sign up using basic identification such as an Aadhaar Card or Voter ID.

To facilitate easier access, the administration has intensified its outreach through local camps in cities and villages. These centers are designed to handle the entire registration process without the need for prior appointments.

“The scheme is not only for poor families, it is for all Punjab residents,” Dr. Balbir Singh affirmed. He stated that the government is committed to ensuring that no citizen has to compromise on necessary medical care due to financial constraints.

Authorities confirmed that once registration is completed at a camp, beneficiaries receive an immediate SMS confirmation, enabling them to access cashless healthcare services without delay.
