Dispur, August 2: A major anti-narcotics campaign spanning Assam and Manipur culminated in the arrest of six suspected drug peddlers and the recovery of illicit substances worth ₹23 crore. The targeted operations focused on key transit routes used to funnel Myanmar-manufactured synthetic drugs and opiates into mainland markets.
Acting on precise intelligence, the Assam Special Task Force halted a suspect vehicle near Amingaon, uncovering 50,000 methamphetamine pills concealed in hidden structural cavities, along with 67.5 grams of soap-case packaged heroin. The vehicle’s occupants, identified as Manipur locals Tabish, Thekcham Avinash Singh, and Nongmaithem Biswajit, were arrested on the spot as officers secured the ₹12.5 crore stash.
Authorities declared that the physical geography of the region plays a crucial role in enabling these syndicates. Officials asserted that Manipur’s nearly 400-kilometer unfenced border with Myanmar makes it an immediate entry corridor for highly addictive party tablets and raw opiates destined for neighboring states.
Action in Manipur further crippled the network with three key captures across different districts. Officers stationed at Jiribam’s Leingangpokpi post seized 5.21 kilograms of brown sugar valued at ₹10 crore from Karbi Anglong resident Bhima Panika. Further searches in Kwakta resulted in the arrest of a woman named Shahna with ₹55 lakh worth of heroin, while prime accused Meraimayum Razak Ahamed was picked up in Imphal East regarding a previous NDPS vehicle bust. Police maintained that operations will continue until all international supply chains are exposed.
