CHANDIGARH, MAY 11 — Authorities in Chandigarh initiated an extensive anti-encroachment campaign in Sector 13, Manimajra, on Monday to comply with a looming Supreme Court deadline. The operation involved the removal of various unauthorized extensions and structures that had occupied government land for several years.

The drive was marked by a heavy security presence, with local police cordoning off specific streets to allow anti-encroachment teams to work without interference. Officials stated that the move was necessary to fulfill legal obligations and improve the local infrastructure of the area.

“We are ensuring that the court’s deadline of tomorrow is met with full compliance,” an administrative spokesperson affirmed. He declared that while the process is difficult for some residents, the restoration of public spaces remains a priority for the city’s governance.

A senior police officer maintained that the deployment was successful in deterring any major protests during the demolition process. He asserted that the operation was conducted smoothly and that no significant injuries or incidents were reported during the first half of the day.

The administration affirmed that similar drives may be conducted in other sectors if judicial mandates or urban requirements demand it. They stated that the goal of the current mission in Manimajra is to ensure that the city’s land use remains in line with established legal frameworks.
