Venezuela Earthquake Kills 32, Injures 700; Emergency Declared

Thousands feared trapped under debris as global leaders pledge immediate relief deployment

by TheReportingTimes

Caracas, June 25: Venezuela has been placed under an absolute state of emergency following back-to-back major earthquakes that killed dozens, injured hundreds, and disrupted critical infrastructure. The severe tremors, which measured 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, flattened residential structures and prompted the interim government to shut down public institutions, schools, and the main international airport outside Caracas. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez confirmed that 32 fatalities have been recorded, while at least 700 injured citizens are currently undergoing treatment at private and public healthcare facilities.

The sudden structural failures have created a critical situation in the capital city and surrounding coastal states, with rescue services estimating that thousands remains trapped inside multi-story buildings that pancaked during the consecutive tremors. International defense forces and humanitarian agencies are coordinating a logistical response to deploy search units into the hardest-hit disaster zones.

“The two major earthquakes that just hit the great people of Venezuela are both massive in scale and have left a devastating number of deaths,” US President Donald Trump stated while offering extensive disaster response teams to coordinate with the interim government.

The physical data reordered the sequence of the event, showing that the epicenters were concentrated near the coastal town of Morón. Seismologists noted that the 39-second interval between the two major ruptures intensified the structural damage, as buildings weakened by the initial 7.2 magnitude shock were entirely compromised by the subsequent 7.5 magnitude tremor.

Private philanthropy has moved concurrently with state actions to reinforce emergency operations. Chef and humanitarian advocate José Andrés announced on social media that he will immediately contribute $1 million through the World Central Kitchen’s Longer Tables Fund to distribute essential sustenance to displaced families.

“On behalf of the people of India, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Venezuela, especially to the families who have lost their loved ones,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted in a formal communication. “We pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and stand in solidarity with all those affected during this difficult time.”
