Police Officer in Abohar Faces NDPS Charges Following Video of Patrol Car Drug Deal

Authorities Launch Manhunt for Absconding ASI Balwinder Singh After Footage Surfaces

ABOHAR, MAY 11 — The Fazilka police have initiated a high-level probe into the conduct of an Assistant Sub-Inspector following the circulation of a video showing a suspected drug deal involving a police helpline vehicle. ASI Balwinder Singh, who was attached to helpline unit number 408, was suspended immediately after the footage became public earlier this week.

The video shows the officer in his patrol vehicle on Seed Farm Road, allegedly buying an intoxicating substance from a local youth. Investigators stated that the transaction involved a payment of ₹500. While one suspect has been named in the First Information Report (FIR), authorities affirmed that the search for the officer and his accomplices is ongoing across the border region.

“How can the state curb the drug menace if enforcement officers are complicit?” MLA Sandeep Jakhar stated in a public post directed at the state’s top leadership. He asserted that such incidents undermine the integrity of the Punjab Police and the public’s trust in the “Shikhya Kranti” and other state-led reform movements.

Superintendent of Police Ashwant Singh maintained that the department is taking the matter with the utmost seriousness. He declared that the police force is committed to a “zero tolerance” policy toward narcotics and that the ASI’s actions are a grave violation of his professional oath.

The clip has been widely shared by local farmer unions and residents, who have long complained about the prevalence of “chitta” and other synthetic drugs in the area. Police representatives affirmed that the entire process of the investigation will be transparent, and they stated that more arrests are expected once the officer is apprehended.
