SANGRUR, May 12 — Asserting that Punjab will not succumb to external political pressure, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday condemned the use of central agencies against political opponents. Speaking after attending a religious ceremony in Sangrur, the Chief Minister maintained that recent actions by the Enforcement Directorate are part of a broader strategy to suppress democratic voices in the region.

The Chief Minister linked these domestic concerns to broader issues of national sovereignty, stating that the current administration in New Delhi is following directions from the White House. He noted that even sensitive matters regarding international conflicts and trade agreements appear to be influenced by foreign consent. Mann stated that such a trajectory undermines the goal of making India a global leader, instead turning the nation into a follower of Western dictates.

During the event, which marked the conclusion of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, Mann also discussed the internal stability of the state following the passage of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act 2026. He affirmed that his government remains dedicated to preserving the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The Chief Minister stated that the law was a necessary step to prevent the unpardonable offense of beadbi.

“The Almighty has bestowed upon me the service to serve humanity by enacting this act, which provides harsher punishment for beadbi,” Mann declared. He stated that the legislation has brought immense relief to the Sangat, who had been seeking justice and preventive measures for years. The Chief Minister noted that the widespread happiness among the people is evident through the numerous invitations he receives to attend religious gatherings.

Regarding economic policies, the Chief Minister expressed concern over foreign direct investment in the defense sector and its potential impact on local interests. He asserted that the proposed trade agreements with the United States could harm the agricultural backbone of Punjab. Mann affirmed that his administration would continue to prioritize the welfare of the state’s farmers and citizens above all else.
