Central forces deployed across Punjab following multi-city temple bomb threats

AMRITSAR, JUNE 4 — Capital and state law enforcement agencies have initiated round-the-clock surveillance operations at sensitive installations after coordinated bomb threat emails targeted five historic temples across Punjab.

The developments have triggered an immediate security upgrade at the Durgiana Temple in Amritsar, the Mata Kali Temple in Patiala, and the Devi Talab Mandir in Jalandhar. Security grids were also strengthened around Pathankot’s Mukteshwar Dham Temple and Bathinda’s Maisar Khana Temple. The threats arrived amidst an already heightened security deployment planned for the upcoming June 6 anniversary.

“Comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place and all threat inputs are being thoroughly investigated,” Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar maintained during an official update.

A senior police official stated that surveillance, vehicle checking, and protective cordons have been established around major transportation hubs and places of worship statewide. To reinforce local police, the government integrated multiple companies of the Central Armed Police Forces, utilizing specialized border security and rapid action units.

The operational strategy was finalized after top police executives, including DGP Gaurav Yadav, completed field inspections of border infrastructure. Special DGP P.K. Sinha noted that the departments are fully briefed on the tactics used by hostile elements attempting to incite local unrest.

“We are fully aware of the designs of hostile neighbours and anti-national elements trying to create unrest in the border state,” Sinha asserted, adding that preventive measures are active to maintain public order.

The ongoing digital investigation reveals a broader international network. Following the arrest of a foreign national in West Bengal who allegedly supplied illicit email access, intelligence teams suspect a coordinated effort linking actors in neighboring countries. Authorities stated that Interpol assistance has been requested to track the digital signatures of the offshore suspects behind the hoax campaign.
