Chandigarh, June 19: Punjab’s upgraded health framework is providing vital support to young adults navigating severe psychological distress, with the state’s cashless health scheme covering a dedicated roster of psychiatric procedures. Medical experts have identified individuals between the ages of 18 and 45 as the most vulnerable demographic due to modern challenges such as academic pressure, career instability, social media overuse, and diminishing traditional support systems.
To counter these pressures, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana has reserved 81 specific mental health procedures exclusively for execution within government hospitals. The availability of free specialized care has successfully encouraged a higher volume of young patients and families to approach civil hospitals at an early stage of diagnosis.
Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh noted that modern lifestyles frequently contribute to elevated stress and anxiety levels among the state’s working population.
“Wider availability of services and cashless treatment support under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana are helping more patients seek help at an early stage, reducing delays in diagnosis and intervention,” the Minister asserted.
He noted that early clinical consultation is vital to preventing long-term behavioral complications.
Medical professionals at the district level reported that the elimination of expensive psychiatrist fees has significantly shifted public attitudes toward mental illness. Clinicians stated that patients who previously avoided hospitals due to economic hardships are now comfortably undergoing supervised recovery programs. The administration affirmed its resolve to keep expanding these specialized public health resources to ensure a healthier and more resilient population.
