Hisar, June 23: A homicide investigation is underway in Hisar district after a toll plaza manager was run over and killed by a Mahindra Scorpio late Monday night. The fatal encounter at the Baddo-Patti toll plaza was triggered by a disagreement regarding a Rs 130 toll fee exemption for local residents.
According to preliminary reports, the vehicle occupants claimed local status to bypass the toll booth near Barwala town. While local identification was provided, the plaza management’s insistence on reviewing the vehicle registration certificate caused the interaction to turn hostile.
During the height of the argument, the driver of the SUV suddenly sped forward, knocking the manager to the ground. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the driver then ran over the fallen manager before speeding away from the highway checkpoint.
Investigating teams cordoned off the area and recovered a firearm from the site of the clash. Police personnel are currently verifying ballistic data, as confusion prevails whether any shot was fired during the initial dispute.
Barwala police station SHO Dalbir Singh Punia arrived at the highway location shortly after the incident to supervise the collection of evidence and review surveillance footage. Specialized teams have been deployed to trace the registered owners of the vehicle involved.
An official tracking the case stated, “The toll plaza manager had asked the youths, who hail from a nearby village, to show some documents for waiving the fee.”
