Varying Rain Patterns in Northwest States

Met Department forecasts extended wet spell following full monsoon coverage

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, July 9: The entire northwest agrarian zone, including the final remaining tracts of Punjab and Haryana, has been fully integrated into the southwest monsoon circuit following an initial delay. The complete coverage arrived after the weather system remained stationary for several days over parts of Rajasthan and southern Punjab, giving way to active precipitation blocks.

“The monsoon remained highly active across Haryana over the last twenty-four hours, while exhibiting weaker tendencies in Punjab,” the India Meteorological Department asserted in its regional bulletin. Experts declared that heavy rainfall accompanied by strong surface winds and thunderstorms will continue to move across the regional plains.

Historical data shows that the current arrival pattern stands in stark contrast to the previous year, when the seasonal system advanced rapidly to saturate both states well ahead of schedule. While current single-day observations highlight moderate-to-heavy downpours in major industrial hubs, cumulative seasonal figures since June continue to show a net deficit for both territories.

“Ten districts in Punjab have managed to secure above-average monsoon rainfall so far,” a regional climatologist affirmed while evaluating the geographical spread. He stated that top-performing zones like Pathankot and Gurdaspur have helped bridge the broader state deficit, balancing out severely dry spells recorded in the state’s southwestern districts.
