Jalandhar, July 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a massive development package to Punjab during his visit to Jalandhar, dedicating and laying foundation stones for public works valued at over Rs 5,470 crore. The central focus of the day’s events was the comprehensive modernization of regional transit, highlighted by the redevelopment of 75 railway stations across the network to significantly upgrade passenger comfort and accelerate economic activity.
The Prime Minister emphasized that public development remains completely distinct from electoral politics.
“Though BJP is not in power in Punjab, the Centre is ensuring the state’s development. Our priority is to serve the citizens directly, and this massive allocation of infrastructure funds reflects our unbiased commitment to the growth of Punjab,” Modi declared.
The visit holds considerable political weight as the central leadership shapes its independent strategy ahead of the upcoming 2027 Punjab Assembly polls. The Prime Minister took the opportunity to assure the crowd of his constant support, stating that he remains deeply connected to the day-to-day aspirations of the local populace.
“Modi har dum har pal Punjab ke logon ke saath hai,” the Prime Minister affirmed, drawing cheering from the assembled gathering.
The infrastructure package also achieved a major milestone for cultural transit by introducing a direct train link between key religious landmarks. The newly flagged-off Amritsar (Chheharta)-Varanasi Sant Ravidas Express is set to provide smooth travel for thousands of pilgrims seeking to visit these spiritual hubs.
The Prime Minister contrast his administration’s infrastructure focus with the internal political disputes of rival parties, stating that governance has suffered under past leaderships. He maintained that local political entities have locked themselves in endless rivalries rather than addressing the structural needs of the state.
“The Congress’ ‘kursi-kissa’ is not coming to an end, and the SAD is in the same position. Punjab needs steady progress, not endless political dramas over power,” Modi maintained before wrapping up his address.
