Inter-state police coordination leads to arrest of key suspect in 2023 Ajnala incident

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, July 24: Authorities intercepted Vikramjit Singh, a key figure named in the 2023 Ajnala police station incident, alongside Punjab-origin US citizen Manveer Singh as they attempted to cross into India from Nepal. The operation, which also led to the apprehension of three individuals accused of facilitating their unauthorized entry, came to light after the Uttar Pradesh Police shared official information with the Amritsar Rural Police.

“Manveer, a US citizen, was caught during routine checking while trying to enter India without a visa,” asserted Uttar Pradesh Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Srivastava, confirming that neither suspect possessed valid travel documentation.

The communication between state police departments enabled Amritsar Rural Police to execute an existing arrest warrant against Vikramjit, who was previously part of the demonstration organized to secure the release of an associate in an attempt-to-murder case. Officials affirmed that Vikramjit had been residing in Kathmandu after hiding in various locations across the country to evade authorities following the 2023 event. The suspects now face legal proceedings under relevant provisions of the Foreigners Act following their detention at the border.
