Mumbai, July 27: Legal action has been initiated in the Bombay High Court by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari regarding online campaigns alleging that his family profited from India’s E20 petrol program.
Following the submission, the court permitted the filing of a civil suit against digital platform operators including Meta, alongside unknown entities responsible for generating deepfake imagery and posts.
“Disputed social media content misrepresents the governance of the ethanol blending program,” declared the Minister’s submission, noting that the policy falls under the domain of the Petroleum Ministry.
The legal move coincides with broader discussions surrounding E20 petrol, where automotive bodies have maintained that certified engines remain fully compatible with the fuel mixture.
Public agencies stated that isolated complaints regarding vehicle performance stem from maintenance factors or fuel impurities rather than the ethanol blend itself.
The central government maintains its stance on ethanol integration as a strategic measure to curb carbon emissions, reduce foreign oil dependencies, and support domestic sugarcane and grain farmers.
