New Delhi, August 6: India’s semiconductor development programs have achieved a vital breakthrough with 254 student-created chip blueprints transitioning to physical silicon production, including 175 fabricated at Mohali’s Semi-Conductor Laboratory.
Responding to queries in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Jitin Prasada declared that targeted support schemes are successfully advancing indigenous chip design capabilities from conceptual frameworks to commercial viability.
“Initial design successes across cutting-edge technology nodes demonstrate steady progress toward full commercial deployment,” maintained Jitin Prasada, asserting that local startups are developing solutions for critical sectors including satellite communications, microprocessors, and surveillance infrastructure.
The government reported that 25 startup-led semiconductor projects have successfully completed tapeouts across various global foundries, including advanced 12 nanometer nodes. Officials affirmed that strong investor confidence in the nation’s technical ecosystem is being matched by expanding academic research, building a sustainable pipeline for domestic hardware engineering.
