Mumbai, August 7 — Joint investigative teams comprising local law enforcement and cyber security experts have launched a comprehensive inquiry following a bomb threat delivered to the office of Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde on Friday.
The electronic message threatened targeted strikes ahead of August 15, specifically singling out the municipal headquarters, the Bombay Stock Exchange, urban educational facilities, and the metropolitan railway network. Investigators noted that the communication referenced specific individuals alongside pro-Khalistan declarations, prompting immediate security reviews across municipal and state agencies.
Specialized cyber units are currently analyzing digital footprints, server routing logs, and transmission origin data to determine the source of the communication. The alert comes during a period of routinely heightened security protocols enforced statewide in the days preceding Independence Day festivities.
“Tawde had earlier received two similar bomb threat emails, leading to heightened security and police investigations,” security officials affirmed.
While preliminary field sweeps revealed no immediate physical hazards, security details at key civic buildings, financial institutions, and transport nodes have been reinforced as a precautionary step while the investigation proceeds.
