Congress Discontent Out in Open as Grassroots Leaders Join AAP in Punjab

Former office-bearers cite family politics and worker neglect as primary reasons for leaving party

CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 18: Internal friction within the Punjab Congress surfaced once again as several district-level leaders, former sarpanches, and youth wing office-bearers from Sangrur resigned from the party to join the Aam Aadmi Party. The political development unfolded in Chandigarh in the presence of top ruling party leadership.

“AAP is the only party where volunteers and grassroots workers are valued and respected,” declared Sanmeek Singh Hanry, former PPCC member and Halqa Dirba coordinator, while addressing reporters alongside other new members.

Explaining the rationale behind the shift, Hanry accused senior Congress figures of focusing on political families rather than supporting cadre who have served for generations.

“Leaders like Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa talk about 4 Tickets for Single Family While Congress Ignores Karyakartas Who Have Served Party for Decades,” Hanry stated, emphasizing that ground workers found no future within the organization.

The inducted group includes former Youth Congress state secretary Prabh Noor Sidhu, Municipal Councillor Adv. Rajnish Gupta, and several former village sarpanches and district committee general secretaries.

“The Bhagwant Mann government has started working from the grassroots, and we wanted to be part of a political organisation where the contribution of every worker is recognised and respected,” Hanry stated.

AAP Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia affirmed that public-centric policies have made the governing party the preferred choice for dedicated political workers across the state.

“The work being done for farmers, including ensuring water for agriculture, along with improvements in education and healthcare, free electricity and financial assistance for women, is before the people of Punjab,” Sisodia stated.

The party’s regional leadership welcomed the new cadre, asserting that the expansion reinforces the ruling party’s presence across the Sangrur belt ahead of upcoming political engagements.
