CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 21 — Government schools across the state have initiated a comprehensive prevention drive to safeguard students from substance abuse under the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ initiative.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that long-term prevention strategies remain essential to eradicating drug dependency among youth. He maintained that classroom-level education, moral discipline, and early guidance provide the most effective defense for protecting young minds.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training released a comprehensive schedule mapping out monthly student and community activities. The calendar assigns poster activities, parent engagement sessions during parent-teacher meetings, literary competitions, and workshops with local community members.

To strengthen school safety, administrators must establish internal drug-free clubs, set up anonymous complaint and suggestion boxes for student reporting, and maintain a strict 500-metre drug-free zone surrounding campus premises.

A major pillar of the program involves teacher capacity building, with over 21,000 educators trained to spot early behavioral shifts, offer timely support, and guide students toward healthy coping mechanisms.

School leadership will conduct periodic performance reviews and maintain visual records to verify that all mandatory activities are conducted systematically throughout the year.
