A special 10-day urban sanitation program, ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, was rolled out across urban local bodies in the state, aiming to streamline municipal waste management through September 7. Public representatives and municipal authorities initiated morning field inspections to evaluate sanitation arrangements and coordinate site clearances.
Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains, while leading campaign activities in Nangal, stated that the state government aims to build a sustainable civic sanitation framework. He asserted that community cooperation remains necessary to maintain cleared public spaces and urged citizens to refrain from illegal waste disposal.
In Faridkot district, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan marked the drive’s commencement in Kotkapura by participating alongside municipal sanitation teams. He affirmed that coordinated efforts involving municipal councils, district administrations, and departmental teams are underway to clear waste collection points. He added that supervisor and worker rosters would be published online to monitor ward-level coverage.
In Patiala, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh participated in ground-level activities at Thapar Chowk, emphasizing that hygienic surroundings help prevent seasonal health risks. Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat monitored operations near Nakodar Chowk in Jalandhar, while Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO joined sanitation workers in Jandiala Guru. In Khanna, Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond initiated the drive from the Municipal Council premises.
Participating legislators included MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa in Zirakpur, MLA Dr. Ajay Gupta in Amritsar, MLA Advocate Lakhbir Singh Rai in Fatehgarh Sahib, MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj in Sangrur, MLA Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora in Moga, MLA Rupinder Singh Happy in Bassi Pathana, and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal in Ajnala. MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal reviewed ongoing clearance activities in Phagwara.
The state government has integrated civic reporting into the M-Seva application, allowing residents to log location details and photographs of uncollected garbage to assist municipal authorities in scheduling site clearance.
