Chandigarh: Court functioning across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh experienced widespread disruption today as local Bar associations unanimously decided to suspend work to protest the registration of an FIR against advocate Amninder Singh Mann. The collective action marks an escalation of ongoing protests that previously shut down legal work in Mansa district courts.
The police complaint was filed in mid-August following comments allegedly directed at former SC Commission chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi. District Bar Association representatives maintained that the application of non-bailable provisions under the SC/ST Act was unwarranted given the context of the remarks made during the July incident.
Speaking on behalf of the legal community, District Bar Association Mansa president Gurdas Singh Mann declared that the inclusion of atrocity charges lacked legal merit. He asserted that the Bar associations decided to extend their protest across the region to ensure fair treatment and proper review of cases involving legal professionals.
Authorities at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Mansa maintained that the investigation remains underway, confirming that no individual has been taken into custody to date. Bar leaders indicated that work will resume pending further discussions regarding the handling of the matter.
