Ludhiana, Sept 15: Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond confirmed that Punjab met a record peak demand of 17,423 MW without resorting to load shedding. Addressing media representatives alongside local legislators, Sond asserted that grid management capabilities prevented widespread outages despite reduced coal allocations and technical disruptions in private power generation facilities.
State power utilities recorded a total energy consumption of 46,696 million units between April and mid-September, representing a 14 percent increase over the corresponding period last year. Consumption metrics for September alone registered a 71 percent surge, driven primarily by agricultural sector requirements and extended seasonal operational schedules.
Department officials declared that prompt interventions, including the acquisition of the Guru Amardas Thermal Plant and technical restoration efforts, stabilized the state distribution system. State representatives maintained that active coordination with industrial unions and agricultural bodies helped streamline complaint resolution and maintain uniform grid stability statewide.
