Jalandhar, September 21: In a move aimed at strengthening livelihood opportunities for women affected by floods in Punjab, NIIB has provided subsidised professional training to around 1,500 girls from affected areas.
The initiative came into focus at NIIB’s 15th Annual Convocation at CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur. More than 1,500 students representing over 30 NIIB branches across North India received degrees, diplomas and certificates during the ceremony.
The institute also announced a ₹5.5-crore scholarship programme for deserving and economically weaker girl students. Under the programme, beneficiaries are being offered subsidised training in beauty and other professional courses designed to improve their prospects of employment and self-employment.
Punjab State Commission for Women Chairperson Raj Lali Gill highlighted the importance of initiatives that combine women’s empowerment with practical skill development. Punjab State Observer Gayatri Bishnoi and Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Advisor Deepak Bali also acknowledged NIIB’s focus on career-oriented education.
NIIB Managing Director and AAP state spokesperson Dr Pooja Singh congratulated the students on completing their courses and said the organisation would continue working to expand opportunities in skill-based professional education.
CEO Ishan Singh also congratulated the graduating students and urged them to put their newly acquired skills to productive use and work towards building sustainable careers.
NIIB said nearly 1,500 girls from flood-affected areas had already completed beauty courses through its support programme, helping them take steps towards employment and financial independence.
The convocation was attended by Punjab Khadi Board Chairman Kaku Aluwalia and Jalandhar Cantt constituency in-charge Rajwinder Kaur Thiara, among others. The event also featured a performance by playback singer Jyoti Nooran and cultural presentations by NIIB students.
