Police teams in Kakinada district rescued four workers stranded by surging floodwaters near the Bombay Katta region on Wednesday as Cyclone Arnab made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh shoreline.
The affected personnel had arrived for work early in the morning but found themselves surrounded by water as sea surge and continuous rainfall inundated the surrounding grounds. Following a call for assistance, local authorities coordinated a vehicle response to transport the workers back to their homes securely.
The rescue coincided with severe weather conditions reported across the state’s coastal belt. District collectors in Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Konaseema, and West Godavari confirmed heavy rain, strong winds, and fallen trees at multiple locations.
Weather officials stated that the storm sat over the west-central Bay of Bengal, roughly 30 km east of Narsapur and 45 km south-southwest of Yanam, moving north-westward with maximum sustained speeds reaching up to 135 kmph and gusts up to 150 kmph.
“The northern spiral band of the cyclone has further entered the land and the landfall process is expected to continue,” the Met department declared in its bulletin, advising continued caution across coastal areas.
