New Delhi, Nov 4: In a significant policy development for military personnel, the armed forces are preparing to extend the service tenure of Agniveers by two years. The announcement, expected to be made shortly by Chief of Defence Staff Gen NS Raja Subramani, addresses the upcoming completion of the initial four-year contractual period for thousands of recruits.
The measure applies to a cohort of 18,300 Agniveers slated to finish their original terms by December 31. Official sources indicated that the extension is intended to strengthen operational readiness while providing continued engagement opportunities within the defence forces. Detailed operational guidelines regarding the extension terms and career structure will be released following the formal announcement by the defence leadership.
