Mohali, March 16– A 24-year-old nurse was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her in-laws’ house in Sector 69 on Thursday night, leading to an abetment to suicide case against her husband and his parents.
Police said the victim, employed at a private hospital in Phase 8, had married the accused, a Kaithal native, in 2023. After spending eight months in Haryana, the couple moved to Mohali.
Her father, a Hisar resident, alleged that his daughter was the sole breadwinner while her husband remained jobless. “She even took a loan against her salary and I paid ₹12 lakh to her in-laws as my son-in-law wanted to move abroad,” he told police.
He further claimed that his son-in-law had illicit relationships, causing frequent domestic disputes. The victim’s cousin also accused the husband’s mother, a sub-inspector in Haryana Police, of threatening her frequently.
Police shifted the body to the Phase-6 civil hospital’s mortuary. Based on the father’s complaint, the victim’s husband and in-laws were booked under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Phase-8 police station.
