Chandigarh Congress Slams Proposed Collector Rate Hike

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, March 17 —Chandigarh Congress has condemned the steep hike in collector rates proposed by the Chandigarh administration, calling it excessive and unaffordable for common citizens.

On Monday, a Congress delegation led by local unit president HS Lucky met Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav and submitted a memorandum outlining the adverse impact of the revision.

Lucky termed the hike unjustified, arguing that purchasing property in Chandigarh was already difficult, and the proposed rates would push homeownership further out of reach.

“The collector rate in some property categories is being raised by up to four times—an unjustifiable increase,” he said, adding that the industrial sector would be particularly affected. “The proposed rate of ₹83,000 per square yard for industrial land is exorbitant and will further burden industrialists.”

Lucky also pointed to discrepancies in revised rates for showrooms on Madhya Marg, where instead of a reduction, the administration had raised them beyond market prices.

He said similar irrational increases for residential and commercial properties in villages required immediate correction, along with inconsistencies affecting housing societies.

Deputy Commissioner Yadav assured the delegation that the administration would carefully review their concerns and take appropriate corrective measures.
