Sangrur, March 18 — Police detained Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Azad) activists in Sangrur, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s home district, on Thursday to prevent them from protesting outside the deputy commissioner’s office.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sukhdev Singh said 250 personnel were deployed, and nine buses were used to transport protesters to police stations across the district, including Cheema, Longowal, Dirba, and Sangrur.

BKU (Ekta Azad) state president Jaswinder Singh Longowal was among those detained. Witnesses claimed police thrashed protesters, including women.

The crackdown comes a day after Samyukt Kisan Morcha Non-Political leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher were detained in Mohali alongside protesters at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.
