12 Specialists Appointed at Muktsar, Gidderbaha Hospitals

by TheReportingTimes

Muktsar, March 25 — The Punjab Health Department has appointed 12 specialist doctors at government hospitals in Muktsar and Gidderbaha, addressing a longstanding shortage of medical professionals in the region.

Nine doctors have been posted at Muktsar Civil Hospital, including a chest specialist, two medicine specialists, a microbiologist, two anaesthetists, a radiologist, an obstetrician-gynaecologist, and a surgeon. Gidderbaha Civil Hospital will receive three specialists—a dermatologist, an ophthalmologist, and a medicine expert.

These fresh MD/MS graduates have signed an indemnity bond of ₹15 lakh, committing to serve the state government for two years after completing their postgraduate courses.

Welcoming the appointments, Muktsar MLA Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar said, “I am grateful to the state government. This will provide much-needed relief to the public.”

Dr Jagdeep Chawla, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Muktsar, said the doctors are expected to join soon, with formal orders anticipated shortly.

Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Bandna Bansal, who also holds charge as Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Muktsar, said the appointments would significantly enhance patient care, as several specialist posts had been vacant.

However, officials noted that past challenges remain, with many doctors previously avoiding postings in this region, preferring larger towns.
