Chandigarh, Oct 10: A major political demonstration unfolded in Chandigarh’s Sector 17 as Aam Aadmi Party leaders and supporters gathered in front of the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer’s building to voice opposition to ongoing voter revision exercises.
The agitation, led by high-profile figures such as former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, aligned with broader protests organized by the CJP regarding democratic governance and voter roll integrity.
Local police intervened to disperse the gathering, detaining key leaders and transferring them to nearby precinct facilities.
During the protest, AAP leadership raised serious objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India, characterizing the policy as an attempt to undermine public representation.
Senior party spokespersons claimed that nationwide revision efforts resulted in large-scale voter disenfranchisement, promising continued resistance against electoral irregularities. Authorities maintained a heightened police presence around the state election headquarters throughout the afternoon to preserve public order.
