High-Profile Opposition Leaders Detained Amid Capital-Wide Restrictions

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI, Oct 10: A multi-agency security operation across the national capital resulted in the detention of numerous top political leaders and activists on Saturday amid ongoing public demonstrations concerning election administration.

Security teams moved to restrict movement around key protest zones, holding figures such as Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi leader Saurabh Bharadwaj near Jantar Mantar, while Mamata Banerjee was detained outside her Delhi residence.

Simultaneously, Pinarayi Vijayan and civil activists including Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav were taken into preventive custody at alternate gathering sites across the city.

The enforcement actions coincided with severe disruptions to public infrastructure, as authorities deployed thousands of paramilitary and local police officers to manage transit corridors.

Transport authorities implemented strict operational limits across dozens of Delhi Metro stations alongside widespread rail service adjustments to prevent large-scale assemblies.

Security forces maintained a dense network of checkpoints and barricades across central corridors throughout the afternoon, detaining over two thousand participants and organizers to enforce citywide movement restrictions.
