Chandigarh, August 4: Punjab’s election machinery has wrapped up the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision drive, successfully collecting and digitising 1.94 crore voter forms out of a total state electorate of 2.14 crore. The door-to-door mapping process, which matched current voter records with the 2003 electoral database, resulted in the deletion of 20.69 lakh names categorised under absent, shifted, dead, or duplicate classifications.
As part of the administrative infrastructure expansion following the enumeration, election authorities announced an increase in polling locations, raising the count from 24,453 to 25,332 across the state.
Outlining the ongoing process for citizens whose records require further verification, Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra declared, “We will issue them a notice and they will be asked to get their votes registered by submitting relevant documents.”
Official figures indicated that nearly 12 lakh voter records could not be mapped directly against the 2003 revision parameters during the 40-day survey. State election officials maintained that affected individuals will have full opportunity to address discrepancies, with the formal period for filing claims, inclusions, and corrections running from August 13 to September 12.
