Akal Takhat Jathedar Urges Sikh Youth to Embrace Identity

by TheReportingTimes

AMRITSAR, June 27 — Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, today performed sewa at the Joda Ghar of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, where he addressed the gathered sangat with a heartfelt appeal to uphold the core values and traditions of Sikhism.

Speaking during the service, Jathedar Gargajj expressed concern over the diminishing visibility of key Sikh symbols among younger generations. “Many parents bring their children to deposit their footwear, but I often notice these children are not wearing the Kada — the primary amulet of Sikhism,” he observed. He urged both parents and children to proudly wear the Kada as a constant reminder of their faith.

He also addressed the Sikh youth, particularly those straying from the spiritual and cultural path of Sikhism. “Wear the turban, keep it with pride, and walk the path of Gursikh living,” he said. “Sikhism is not just an identity to be worn—it is a way of life we must honour through our daily actions.”

His message resonated deeply with the sangat, leaving a visible impact. Several families reportedly came forward immediately to have their children initiated into Sikhism through the Amrit Sanchar ceremony.

The Jathedar’s appeal reinforced the significance of external symbols like the Kada and dastar (turban) as integral expressions of inner discipline and Sikh values. He called for collective responsibility in preserving the essence of the Panth by embedding these values in the next generation.
