Chandigarh, Dec 8 — The British High Commission on Monday announced that Alba Smeriglio has formally taken over as the Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh, where she will oversee the UK’s engagement with four northern states and the Union Territory.
Smeriglio’s mandate includes strengthening political, economic and cultural ties across Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand. Officials said her appointment is expected to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, education and security.
Before her Chandigarh posting, Smeriglio served in Montserrat as Head of Programmes and Office. She has also held diplomatic assignments elsewhere in the Caribbean and in South Asia, alongside policy roles in London focused on governance and international cooperation.
She holds a BSc from the London School of Economics, an MA from the University of Aberdeen and a postgraduate degree in politics from the University of Siena.
