NEW DELHI, AUGUST 17: The status report detailing the probe into alleged donation irregularities at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust will remain sealed from public access for the time being, the Supreme Court ruled on Monday. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant affirmed that the report submitted by Uttar Pradesh authorities cannot be made available to petitioners or outside entities at this delicate juncture. However, the court established a channel for public-spirited citizens and legal representatives to submit investigative suggestions via the Solicitor General’s office.
“Our consideration in these proceedings remains strictly confined to the scope of the investigation,” stated the bench during arguments. “Suggestions regarding the probe may be submitted, and the court will evaluate necessary management reforms after reviewing future progress.”
The judicial review follows multiple petitions demanding a court-monitored investigation, including requests for a forensic audit and CBI involvement regarding trust finances. Following earlier proceedings, the court had mandated the setup of an SIT headed by an Inspector General of Police and supported by forensic specialists to ensure an objective inquiry into the allegations.
During the hearing, various stakeholders, including counsel for the Nirmohi Akhada, voiced support for comprehensive accounting checks while highlighting the need for systemic transparency in handling devotee contributions. While keeping the report confidential to safeguard the probe’s integrity, the Supreme Court reiterated that the SIT holds a defined mandate centered on the filed FIR, with a updated status report expected prior to the next court date.
